Our original language is tonal. We hear it in a small infant as they explore the movement of the breath taking form through the shape of their mouth and tongue. The human body tones all the time. We yawn, sneeze, laugh, cry, burp, all ways the body expresses sound. It’s natural.
Yet our voices are often stuffed or silenced at a very early age.
When we grow up with words like children should be seen and not heard,we shut down…long into adulthood. Sadly, when we are unable or unwilling to express the truth of who we are, to ourselves or others, we pay a price physically and emotionally… even spiritually.
Have you ever noticed when we are unwilling to say NO, our bodies will say it for us? The good news is that our own sound can open up bands of harmonic frequencies that become food for our cells, releasing stress and changing conditions in the whole body system.
Toning is a primordial experience, the basic, most essential sounds of nature. Without words, rhythm or melody these sounds are potent healing tools. Typically toning consists of non-verbal conscious elongation of sounds, using the breath and voice, similar to sighing, moaning, chanting, yawning and humming.
It’s usually started with a vowel sound such as AA, AH, EE, II, OH, OO.
According to Rudolf Steiner, these vowel sounds are the sounds of the soul and connects the soul with the body. It provides us with a focus or a centering point and allows our mind to quiet the chatter and open to the power of its creative and intuitive abilities.
Because the voice is pure vibration it reveals a spectrum of physical, psychological, mental and energetic patterns that either allow or prevent resonance in the physical body and energy body.
Informed by the principle of entrainment, the sound of our voice is the most efficient delivery system for harmonic food needed to restore resonance and vitality to the cells.
Scientific studies show that sound can produce changes in the autonomic, immune, endocrine and neuropeptide systems. Every atom, molecule, cell, gland, and organ of the human body absorbs and emits sound.
The entire body, as well as our brain waves in a relaxed state, vibrates at a fundamental frequency of about 8 cycles per second, literally entraining and attuning us to the basic electromagnetic field of the earth itself! NOT BAD for a vowel.
